About Us
The art work you are viewing on this site was created by Northwest Artist Virgil Goodman currently living on the beautiful Olympic Peninsula of Washington State.
Originally from Colorado, Virgil grew up surrounded by the natural beauty of the awe inspiring rocky mountains and from an early age was inspired to recreate the scenes and animals of the forest and mountains around his home.
Primarily a self-taught artist, his introduction into the world of art was guided by his father, Virgil L Goodman, also a metal artist and woodworker. It was his fathers imagination and artistic creativity that developed the style and technic for creating the brass metal sculpture created by Virgil today.
Through many years of experimentation and observation of the natural world around him Virgil has taken that original technic of hand hammering sheet brass, much as the tinkerers and metal-smiths used many years ago to make copper kettles and cooking utensils, to create his own unique style of artistic expression.
Often time viewers have mistaken Virgil's work as bronze castings, one of the more traditional forms of working metal into objects of art, there are however no castings or molds used to create these unique pieces of art. Each and every piece is hand cut and formed from sheet brass then silver-soldered to form full round freestanding as well as wall mounted sculptures.
Many pieces are then combined with natural "found" items such as driftwood and stone to complete the creation. These natural materials are often pieces of art in their own right and contribute to the unique character of each sculpture, insuring every owner of one of these sculptures that no other piece of art ever has or ever will be the same as the one they own, it is truly "one of a kind"
